Personal interests include theater, writing, swimming, skiing, traveling, and visual arts.
Academic experience
Doctoral Degree: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont.
Master’s Degree: Education from Castleton State College (re-named Castleton University and now Vermont State University).
Bachelor of Arts Degree: English from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia.
projects
It was a privilege to teach as a Fulbright Specialist in Kazakhstan in 2016 and 2023 and to facilitate a robust summer learning session on educational technology for professors there in 2020. My goal was to gain a broader view of the global educational landscape, and I still correspond with a number of my Kazakh students.
writing
In 2015, I published a book, entitled A Teacher’s Journey to Adolescence: Scholarly and Personal Perceptions of Resilience at the Middle Level. The second edition (2019) is also in Kindle form.
Backed by research from experts in the field, including other educators, psychologists, philosophers, and students themselves, the story unfolds through themes of understanding, purpose, perseverance, and hope. It carries the reader through the seasons, from a winter of growth to a spring of hope for the future of education. This book is a resource for parents, teachers, and everyone else who shares a meaningful connection with young adolescents through the dynamic life stage that occurs in the middle grades.
